Material Handler

Scope of Position:
The Material Handler is responsible for participating in the shipping and receiving operations of the yard, which includes loading/unloading trucks, managing inventory control processes and quality control of outgoing/returning materials. This role requires the operation of a counterbalance forklift to pick orders and prepare outgoing shipments.
What you'll do on a typical day:
- Actively participating in the shipping and receiving operations, including duties such as:
- Loading and unloading trucks.
- Checking for overages, damages and shortages.
- Order picking and repackaging returned materials.
- Operating a counterbalance forklift to pick orders and prepare outgoing shipments.
- Safely operating a heavy duty counterbalance forklift outdoors, over uneven terrain to move material and pick orders when required.
- Consistently executing pedestrian safety while operating machinery.
- Actively participating in cycle counts and inventory control processes.
- Maintaining an exceptional attendance record with consistent emphasis on punctuality.
- Participating in all group health and safety meetings.
- Demonstrating a strong commitment to safety.
- Complying with all PERI policies and procedures, and provincial health and safety standards, at all times.
- Respect working procedures.
- Use protective personal equipment when required.
- Report hazards and accidents.
- Take care of your health and safety and that of the others.
- Other related duties as assigned.
What you'll need to be successful:
- Must have a valid forklift license from a recognized and accredited Canadian training program or school.
- Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in the safe operation of a counterbalance forklift.
- Previous experience organizing material in an outdoor environment is preferred.
- Experience operating a diesel-powered counterbalance forklift with capacities up to 15,000 pounds/ 7,000 kilograms is preferred.
- Ability to handle both large and small parts for material preparation and movement.
- Ability to perform basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and the ability to count parts manually.
