Material Handler

Scope of Position:

The Material Handler is responsible for participating in the shipping and receiving operations of the yard, which includes loading/unloading trucks, managing inventory control processes and quality control of outgoing/returning materials. This role requires the operation of a counterbalance forklift to pick orders and prepare outgoing shipments. 

What you'll do on a typical day:

• Actively participating in the shipping and receiving operations, including duties such as:
  • Loading and unloading trucks.
  • Checking for overages, damages and shortages.
  • Order picking and repackaging returned materials.
  • Operating a counterbalance forklift to pick orders and prepare outgoing shipments.
• Safely operating a heavy duty counterbalance forklift outdoors, over uneven terrain to move material and pick orders when required.
• Consistently executing pedestrian safety while operating machinery.
• Actively participating in cycle counts and inventory control processes.
• Maintaining an exceptional attendance record with consistent emphasis on punctuality.
• Participating in all group health and safety meetings.
• Demonstrating a strong commitment to safety.
• Complying with all PERI policies and procedures, and provincial health and safety standards, at all times.
• Respect working procedures.
• Use protective personal equipment when required.
• Report hazards and accidents.
• Take care of your health and safety and that of the others.
• Other related duties as assigned.

What you'll need to be successful:

• Must have a valid forklift license from a recognized and accredited Canadian training program or school.
• Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in the safe operation of a counterbalance forklift.
• Previous experience organizing material in an outdoor environment is preferred.
• Experience operating a diesel-powered counterbalance forklift with capacities up to 15,000 pounds/ 7,000 kilograms is preferred.
• Ability to handle both large and small parts for material preparation and movement.
• Ability to perform basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and the ability to count parts manually.
